SERMON NOTES

PART 1

Pastor Blunt shares how God’s covenant of protection is two-fold. When we do our part, God will do His part. We believe, as you read these notes, God’s Word is working in and through you.

Covenant means God’s promise!

Psalm 91 Expository Teaching verse by verse.

- We should not be questioning God about why something happened or didn’t happen but to ask “Why wasn’t I listening to God”

Psalm 91 (KJV)

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

-2 different names of God
-Know the names of God reveals His character
-We have to give God a legal right to protect us
-Must be a habit to dwell in God’s presence
-The key to being in God’s presence is obedience

2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

- We have our part, and God has His part to do
- Our part is confessing who He is
- We get to the secret place of God’s protection through our confession
- Our confession can put a lid on our life
- Our faith gives us access to His protection

3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. 14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

- What we declare He becomes
- Trust God and don’t live in fear
- Whatever we fear will come to pass
- Don’t build your faith on other’s experiences, but on the Word of God

PART 2

In part 2, Pastor shares the tools we need to have God’s great peace and protection in all kinds of circumstances. We use our words, obedience, faith and most importantly, heeding to God’s warnings! We believe, as you read these notes, God’s Word is working in and through you.

God wants to be our perfect protection! We don’t have to be in hostage to fear, worry or our circumstances. Psalm 91 is the best chapter in the Bible for protection.

Tools to arm you to walk in peace, security, and safety in a hostile world

  1. Our confession
  2. Our obedience
  3. Our faith
  4. Heeding God’s warnings

Psalm 91 (NLT)

1Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.2This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.5Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. 6Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. 8Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.

9 If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, 10no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. 11For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. 12

They will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone. 13You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! 14The Lord says, "I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. 15When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. 16I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation."

  • God has to be priority for me and my family

  • The greatest battle our trust and faith encounters is when things are happening I don’t understand
  • God gives us warnings through an inward witness
  • We miss God’s warnings when we are in a hurry
  • The enemy has traps

1 John 3:24 (KJV)

  • Look inward for your peace, not outward signs
  • God will give you timing to protect you

Psalm 31:1-5 (TEV)

1 I come to you, LORD, for protection; never let me be defeated. You are a righteous God; save me, I pray. 2 Hear me! Save me now! Be my refuge to protect me; my defense to save me. 3 You are my refuge and defense; guide me and lead me as you have promised. 4 Keep me safe from the trap that has been set for me; shelter me from danger. 5 I place myself in your care. You will save me, LORD; you are a faithful God.
