SERMON NOTES

WEEK 1

DESCRIPTION
In this teaching, Pastor Blunt teaches us how to pray correctly and get results to those prayers. This week we focus on having the right mindset when approaching God. We believe as you read these notes God's Word is working in and through you.

NOTES

We are going to focus on the mindset we need to have. We need the right heart.

Wrong Mindset:
•    We don’t have to beg God. Prayer is not punishment, but a privilege.
•    We don’t bribe or bargain with God.

Our prayer life determines our walk with God, and our prayer life is determined by our picture of God.

•    We need to have the right picture of God to have the right prayer life.
•    What is the one word you use to describe God?

Mathew 21:22 AMP
And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive.

•    Whatever: God is interested in whatever you want. God wants you to talk to Him, to tell Him about your desires and interests because He gave them to you.
•    Faith: prayer doesn’t move God unless it’s full of faith.  Law of Faith: even though God wants to do something He won’t do it unless you have faith.  Faith is being fully persuaded, Really believing: time, persecution and contrary circumstances can’t take it away from you. No one can talk you out of it. It’s not hoping or wishing.

Psalms 9:10 NIV
10 Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.

•    Knowing God is a prerequisite to answered prayer. There are a lot of names of God in His Word. You need to know His names to approach Him correctly.

•    He has to be Lord over our finances, health, thoughts…over every area of our life.

•    When we trust Him we can walk with Him.

Grace (not guilt)
Faith won’t work with guilt or condemnation.
Guilt can drive us to prayer, but it won’t keep us there.

Right mindset
1.    Know who God is.
        a.    The more we know Him the better we pray.
2.    Know how He works.
        a.    He works in patterns and principles and if we don’t know we will be frustrated.
3.    Know what He has promised.
        a.    We can’t claim what we don’t know.

Psalms 31:1-9 NLT
19 How great is the goodness
You have stored up for those who fear You.
You lavish it on those who come to You for protection,
blessing them before the watching world.

•    Goodness and grace will follow us.
•    When we think about His goodness, it will drive us to Him.

GOLDEN NUGGETS
•    The more we know Him the better we pray.
•    We need to have the right picture of God to have the right prayer life.

WEEK 2

DESCRIPTION
Pastor Blunt continues his teaching on how to pray correctly and get results to those prayers. This week we learn the importance of having a clear conscience to have effective prayers. We believe as you read these notes God's Word is working in and through you.

NOTES

Prayer is so important. The more prayer, the more power.
We are going to focus on the mindsets we need to have. We need the right heart.

The only thing that is recorded his disciples asked Jesus was “teach us how to pray”.
Our prayer life is linked to our victory.
The first thing Jesus did when He was teaching how to pray, is to see God as our Heavenly Father.

Prayer changes me and then changes my circumstances, in that order.

If I want my prayer to work I need to have the right mindset.

Right mindset:

1.    Know who God is.
        a.     The more we know Him the better we pray.
        b.     If I think God is distant it won’t be easy to get in His presence.
2.    Know how He works.
        a.     He works in patterns and principles and if we don’t know his ways, we will be frustrated.
        b.     When we know how God works, we tend to work with it.
3.    Know what He has promised.
        a.     We can’t claim what we don’t know.

Matthew 21:22 AMP
And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive.

•    Whatever: God is interested in whatever you want. God wants you to talk to Him, to tell Him about your desires and interests because He gave them to us.
•    You ask: It’s not going to happen automatically. We have to give God permission.
•    Faith: Prayer doesn’t move God unless it’s full of faith
o    Law of faith: Even though God wants to do something He won’t do it unless you have faith. Faith Is being fully persuaded.
•    Really believing: Time, persecution and contrary circumstances can’t take it away from you. No one can talk you out of it. It’s not hoping or wishing.

THE BIGGEST WORD IN THE BIBLE IS GRACE.

Another word in the Bible for believing is confidence. Confidence and conscience are connected. Conscience is the voice of our human spirit (the Holy Spirit comes into our human spirit and talks to us). We need a clear conscience to have great confidence and approach God correctly.

This means we need to have a clear conscience to get answers to our prayers:

Acts 24:16 AMPC (Apostle Paul)
Therefore, I always exercise and discipline myself [mortifying my body, deadening my carnal affections, bodily appetites, and worldly desires, endeavoring in all respects] to have a clear (unshaken, blameless) conscience, void of offense toward God and toward men.

•    Clear conscience: If Paul needed to work for a clean conscience, so do we.
•    Faith never works when we feel condemned and guilty and shameful.
•    Guilt steals our energy, opportunities.
•    Blameless: A blameless conscience is not a life where we don’t fail. It’s one where we don’t blame God. Blameless is not perfection but integrity. We won’t question God or our fellow man.

John 3:21-22 AMPC
21 But whoever practices truth [who does what is right—morally, ethically, spiritually] comes to the Light, so that his works may be plainly shown to be what they are—accomplished in God [divinely prompted, done with God’s help, is dependent on Him].
•    Conscience: inner guide - we know what's wrong and right.
•    Confidence is here too.

JOHN’S LAST TESTIMONY
22 After these things, Jesus and His disciples went into the land (the countryside) of Judea, and there He spent time with them and baptized.
-Then we will receive whatever we ask.
How do we get a clear conscience? By asking God’s forgiveness because His mercy is greater.

GOLDEN NUGGETS
-Prayer changes me and then changes my circumstances, in that order.
-When we know how God works, we tend to work with it.
