THIS MONTH’S BIBLICAL THEME IS: God is Trustworthy

By giving the law to His people, God showed His commitment to the Israelites’ well-being. Joshua was rewarded for trusting God despite others’ fear. God was trustworthy as He led the Israelites to victory in Jericho. Samson’s life showed that even when people fail, God remains faithful and merciful, ready to redeem those who turn back to Him. Our stories reveal a God who is constant, powerful and worthy of trust in all circumstances.

Just as you should listen to a coach when playing on a sports team, each Bible story will teach us how to listen to God’s playbook, the Bible! Like a trusty playbook, God’s Word is there guiding us through life. We can trust our heavenly Coach!

Samson (Judges 13-16)

God raised up a leader named Samson during the time the Israelites were oppressed by the Philistines. Samson was dedicated to God from birth but also tended to cause trouble and do things his own way. He fell in love with Delilah. Delilah worked with the Philistines to discover Samson’s great strength. Samson ended up captured, but God ultimately used him to destroy the Philistine leaders.

God was faithful to the Israelites, despite Samson’s unfaithfulness. God can work through any circumstance to accomplish His plan. The story of Samson and the judges reminds us what can happen when we turn away from God and try to do things our own way. Just like Samson was bound by the chains, our sin enslaves us. This is exactly why we need Jesus. We need a rescuer to save us. God sent Jesus to be the ultimate Rescuer who would save us from our sins. Only God could free Samson, and only God can free us from our sins through Jesus.
