Small Group Recap: Seeking God’s Presence in Relationships
Cynthia warmly welcomed everyone and invited each woman to introduce herself and share why she joined the group. Katie recently joined Church on the Rock and is seeking community. Aquria, a Mercy Hospital supervisor, expressed appreciation for the group’s faith-centered focus. Mekessa, an assistant principal, shared that after returning to volunteering post-COVID, she desires deeper connection. Diana, a long-time church member, has served in many volunteer roles and values continued spiritual growth. Joanne (who has served in Celebrate Recovery), Lauren, Joycelyn, Kolby, Nelly, and Benyta all shared a desire to be surrounded by like-minded women who encourage faith and growth. The common theme was clear: each woman is seeking community, connection, and spiritual growth.
Cynthia led the session focusing on the importance of seeking God’s presence and growing spiritually through meaningful relationships. Diana opened in prayer, and the group participated in an icebreaker. The group shared insights in regard to referencing Psalms 128, highlighting the blessings that come from seeking God’s face. Cynthia created a safe and welcoming environment, reminding everyone that no question is “stupid,” and encouraging open engagement and sharing.
The discussion centered on the difference between seeking God’s face rather than simply seeking His hand. The key scripture, Hebrews 11:6, emphasizes that God rewards those who diligently seek Him. The group reflected on being transformed through a deeper relationship with God, understanding that spiritual growth requires intentional pursuit, and recognizing that obedience and faith lead to clarity and guidance.
Joanne and Cynthia shared experiences from Celebrate Recovery and the 12-step program, emphasizing forgiveness, surrender, character growth, and following God’s detailed instruction. Mekessa and others highlighted how obedience and prayer position us to receive clear direction from God. The conversation reinforced that transformation happens through the consistent pursuit of His presence.
Kolby vulnerably shared her spiritual journey, including navigating auditions, finding comfort in music as a way of communicating with God, seeing cardinals as reminders of His presence, and processing a recent hearing loss diagnosis while remaining faithful to her calling. Nelly shared how seeking God during a misunderstanding with her husband led to reconciliation and improved communication. Both testimonies demonstrated how prayer and faith guide us through personal challenges.
The group reflected on how seeking God’s presence brings clarity in purpose, strength during uncertainty, growth through discomfort, and answers to life’s challenges. Cynthia encouraged everyone to write down specific goals for intentionally seeking God, emphasizing faith, patience, and consistent prayer. The session concluded with prayer requests and a closing prayer led by Mekessa.
Homework before next session: Reflect on what your week will look like as you intentionally seek God’s face. Identify what you are seeking from Him. Write down your specific prayer focus. Complete the discussion questions and be prepared to share your responses next week.
