Weekly Leadership Lifter

Last year I shared the wisdom of staying within the grace of our calling. In today's culture, we are pulled in so many different directions and it's important we're operating within the place God has intended for us. Let's revisit this topic.

A few years ago there was a commercial on television that showed a young man rushing to an important job interview. He was doing everything he could to catch the bus, and then he noticed an older man working at changing a flat tire. Quickly looking at his watch, he looks back at the bus, and he looks at the older man struggling with the lug wrench, and he makes a choice. He takes off his jacket, and leans down and helps the man. In the next scene, he walks into an office, still a mess from hurrying to get to the interview on time. A man behind a desk stands to greet him, and as they shake hands, their eyes meet. And to both their surprise, it’s the older gentleman whose tire he changed half an hour earlier. We can only imagine he leaves that interview with a new job. That young man had been in the right place at the right time.

We never want to be out of our place. Our place is that spot where we fit in life—our niche, our calling, our passion, and our purpose. Here’s a little rhyme for you to remember. When we’re out of our place, we’re out of our grace. And if we’re out of our grace, we won’t finish our race.

Notice what the Bible tell us in Romans 5:6, “Having gifts (faculties, talents, qualities) that differ according to the grace given us, let us use them…”

In other words, God has a special place for each of us and has uniquely graced us with the gifts and abilities we need to function in that place effectively. .

"The two most important days in life are the day you are born and the day you discover the reason why."
—Mark Twain

"Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement.

—W. Clement Stone

I love the story of Queen Esther in the Bible. Through various circumstances and seemingly unrelated coincidences, she was brought from lowly beginnings to be queen, but really God was positioning her in the right place. Haman, a wicked advisor to the King, had plotted to kill all the Jews in the land. Little did he know, Esther was a Jew and because she was in the place God wanted her to be, God graced her to rescue her people. Esther 4:14 says she was put in her royal place for “such a time as this.”

Our mission statement at Church on the Rock is: “To lead people to a God who is for them and (we don’t stop there) help them discover His purpose for their life.” We understand that true fulfillment and true grace (God’s unmerited favor) comes when we are in that exact place where God wants us.

If we step outside of that place into areas for which He hasn’t graced us to operate in, it’s just not going to work. We’re going to get stressed out, we’re going to get worn out, and then we’re going to quit.

Today, I encourage you as a legendary leader to do all you can to make sure that you are in the place God has called you. Only then will you experience His grace and favor.
