SERMON NOTES

WEEK 2

DESCRIPTION
In this teaching, Pastor Blunt teaches us about the importance of leaving a legacy.  This week is expository teaching (verse by verse) of James 112:1-6, where we see the importance and benefits of having a legacy. We believe as you read these notes God's word is working in and through you.

NOTES
What is the problem we are solving in this teaching? It’s that your life has meaning and purpose.

Psalms 1:12

When you have something to live for, you will live more. Some people are just existing.

Legacy is something handed down, what you will be remembered for. What word will describe your life at your funeral? (whatever you are known for).

Legacy is what you leave behind. When you are looking ahead (eternity minded) you will leave more behind (a bigger legacy.)

The next world is much bigger (more important) than this world.
         •    You should sow for that world.
         •    What we do now determines our role in the next world.

Legacy:

1.    What we are remembered for.

Psalms 112:1-6 NLT
1Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying His commands.
         •    If our priorities are right, God will give us a joy the world can’t take away.
         •    We delight and meditate on His word, His word lives in us and it changes us. Everyone who is willing can change.

2 Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.
         •    If we put God first our children will be successful.
         •    Our children will be successful because we have our priorities right.

3 They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever.
         •    Every good work we do will be remembered forever.

4 Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.
         •    When we put God first, He will give us the wisdom to do the right thing.

5 Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
         •    We need to have fair business (with both sides winning).

6 Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.
         •    An evil day is when everything that could go wrong goes wrong, but if God is our priority, He will take evil and turn it around.

Legacy is what we are remembered for.

3 THINGS WE NEED TO LEAVE A LEGACY

1.    An eternity mindset.
         •     Life is bigger than this life.

2.    Sacrifice Minded.
         •    Lay your life down, forfeit the now for your future.
         •    “There’s no success without sacrifice”. John Maxwell
3.    A sense of urgency.
         •    Don’t waste a day but seize the day.
         •    A legacy person realizes this life is short.

GOLDEN NUGGETS

•    The next world is much bigger (more important) than in this world.
•    Don’t waste a day but seize the day.
•    Life is bigger than this life.
