SERMON NOTES

WEEK 1

In this teaching, Pastor Blunt teaches us about the mission of our church and how important it is to live a life with a mission. You can also learn how to discover God’s purpose for your life. We believe as you read these notes God's Word is working in and through you.

BIG IDEA
Nothing matters more than discovering God’s purpose for your life.

NOTES
You should have a mission. Your mission is your WHY.

“The two most important days of our life are the day we were born and the day we found out why”. Mark Twain

If we don’t know our why, our life will be empty, frustrated and constantly changing.

The why should be our motivation.

Our mission at COTR is to lead people to a GOD who is for them and help them DISCOVER His PURPOSE for their life.

God created us on purpose and for a purpose.

The greatest tragedy is not death, but to live a life without purpose.

At Church on the Rock, we love all people from all backgrounds and all colors.

We believe the local church is the hope of the world.

God is for you.
•    He is not mad at you, but He is for you.

Mark 8:34 KJV
And when He had called the people unto Him with His disciples also, He said unto them, whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
•    Whoever you are following is forming your life.
•    What you believe affects your behavior. Your behavior determines who you are becoming.

Mark 8:35 KJV
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
1.    We must find our life (purpose).
2.    We must lose our life (we need to go all-in).
3.    We will make a difference with our life.

How to discover God’s purpose for your life:
1.    What moves you; what are you passionate about?
2.    What are you good at? (Your skillset)
3.    What are your opportunities?
4.    Who are you running with?

GOLDEN NUGGETS
-The greatest tragedy is not death, but to live a life without purpose.

-“The two most important days of our life are the day we were born, and the day we found out why”. Mark Twain

WEEK 2
DESCRIPTION

BIG IDEA
Our life will never be meaningful until our life becomes a means ( to an end).

NOTES
Our mission (our why) is to Lead People to a God Who is for Them and Help Them Discover His Purpose for Their Life.

-At Church on the Rock, we lead all people from all backgrounds and all colors.

-People who don’t know their purpose wander.

-We discover our purpose through service.

-Who are you here for?
•    We should be here for God and other people.

Mark 8:34-35 KJV
34 And when He had called the people unto Him with His disciples also, He said unto them, Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
•    Whoever you are following is forming your life.
•    What you believe affects your behavior. Your behavior determines who you are becoming.

35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

TO SAVE OUR LIVE WE HAVE TO:

1.   We have to find our life (purpose).
2.  We have to lose our life (we need to go all in).
3.  We will make an eternal difference with our life.

How to discover God’s purpose for your life:

1.    What moves you? What are you passionate about?
2.    What are you good at? (your skillset)
3.    What are your opportunities? (look for a need and fill it)
4.    Who are you running with?

2.    What are they have you do?
3.    What are they have you read?
4.    What are they have you think?

5.    What are they have you say?
6.    What are they have you feel?
             a. Do they leave you feeling better or worse?
7.    Where are they have you go?

The purpose of God for our life is not like a blueprint. It’s like a scroll. Every time we know a little more.

Our life will never be meaningful until we become a means (to an end).
•    We have to be a channel to bless other people.
•    We want to be blessed so that we can be a blessing.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), [d]recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

•    We are not saved by good works, but we are called to good works.
•    Our faith is for God but our works for our fellow man.
•    He has a path for us (destiny).
•    The good life is God’s will for our life.

Matthew 5:16 KJV
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
•    Our good works will transform others and glorify God.

Titus 2:14 NLT
14 He gave His life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us His very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

GOLDEN NUGGETS

-People who don’t know their purpose wander.
-We discover our purpose through service.
-Our life will never be meaningful until we become a means.

Week 3

DESCRIPTION
In this teaching, Pastor Blunt teaches us about the mission of our church and how important it is we discover ours. This week we focus on how impressive serving is and how it will fulfill your destiny.

BIG IDEA
Through service, we are fulfilling our destiny.

NOTES

Our mission at COTR is to lead people to a GOD Who is for them and help them DISCOVER His PURPOSE for their life.

We help people discover their purpose. We don’t decide on our purpose. We have to determine God’s purpose for us. That way we will live a fulfilled life.

•    When you live with purpose, you live a powerful life (confident, fulfilled).

•    Most Christians don’t know God’s purpose for their life, and it is our mission to help them.

Heaven will not be the same for all Christians because we will be rewarded for all of our random acts of kindness.

•    What I do now determines my position in the next life. If we discover our purpose we will have more rewards.
•    What are we doing with the life God gave us?

STORY OF RAHAB

•    The two spies went to see Jericho, and they met a lady named Rahab (that name meets big, broad, which means she is full of potential). She had a past like all of us do.

Rahab had:
1.    Past.
2.    Potential (because of her name).
3.    She was a harlot/whore and a woman (in that culture that was lower than men).
4.    She was a Gentile.
5.    She was an Amorite (they were bad people).

•    Even with all the above, she became a believer, and when you find Christ all things become new.
•    Her life changed and family was saved because of one RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS.
•    She found her purpose through service.
•    She opened the door to God’s people through one random act of kindness, and she even had a new legacy. She is in the lineage of David and Jesus.

When we serve in the place we have been called, we will be full of joy.

Through serving we will be fulfilling our destiny.

•    Look for a need and fill it.
•    Jesus said He didn’t come to be served but to serve. The Bible says through service He fulfilled His calling.

4 WAYS TO DISCOVER GOD’S PURPOSE:

Ephesians 1:11 Message
•    It’s in Christ we find our purpose.
Colossians 1:16 Message
1 Timothy 6:21 Living Bible

•    The most important thing in our life is knowing God.

1.    Know God
       a.    We will work on this through eternity
2.    Know our gifts
       a.    You can discover your gifts in Growth Track
       b.    Romans 11:29 KJV
               i.    Gifts come before calling. Want to know your calling, discover your gifts.
3.    Work on your character
       a.     2 Timothy 2:21
              i.    People promote talent but God promotes character
ii.    We need to develop Jesus’ character, the fruit of the Spirit
4.    Through serving
       a.    Jesus didn’t come to be served

ACTION STEP

•    Look at everything you are doing as a service. You are not wasting your life but investing it.
•    Colossians 3: Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.
